6 Beautiful Traits We Need To Relearn from Children

While growing up is important and we cannot remain children forever, kids do have qualities that will serve us for the rest of our lives. No matter how old we are, there will always be valuable lessons to learn from the lovely little people we know who bring us so much joy.

Belief In The Good In Others. As adults, our undesirable experiences of the world develop within us a natural suspicion for the intentions of others. We often ask ourselves “can I trust this person?” or “what does this person really want from me?” Children however, unless a person looks particularly fearsome, are open and trusting toward people in general. Their naivete is the primary reason for why it is so easy for them to make friends.

What was your first impression of someone you met recently? Did you make a judgment, or a friend?

Being Unafraid To Ask For Help. The pride that comes from independence in adulthood is often what hinders us from asking others for help, even if we really need it. Children are well aware of their limitations as well, but are much more comfortable with them. While self-sufficiency is an admirable trait, it is equally admirable to be humble in recognizing where one’s own weaknesses lie.

Ask for help today for a task you are having difficulty with. It will pay off in the long run!

The Pure Enjoyment Of Laughter. When we are babies, we giggle at the silly sounds and faces the adults around us make. When we are children, our humor becomes more developed and we become as capable of cracking jokes as enjoying them. When we become adults however, we allow ourselves to become burdened of the stresses of life and moments of laughter become more scarce in our daily routines.

It is the best medicine, even doctors say. Why not permit yourself to laugh for a few minutes everyday?

No Fear Of The Future. When we are children, the world is our oyster. We have this almost reckless sense of adventure and have no fear of the future. To children, risks are not risks, but possibilities. As adults, we become more calculated, more cautious…and often with good reason! But sometimes, if we are being honest, we are really just afraid of failing, or getting hurt.

What is holding you back from something you really want to do? Are your fears warranted?

Genuineness Towards Others. With children, there are no hidden agendas and their intentions are pure and simple. What you see and hear from them is exactly what you get. As adults, we learn how to be conniving, manipulative, and sarcastic. We often do not mean what we say.

Let’s play close attention to our conversations and relationships today and ask ourselves, are we being truly authentic towards the people around us?

A Simpler Understanding Of Life. When we are children, life is simple and so are we. As we grow to become adults, our desires become more ambitious, and our relationships become more complicated. To find joy in the “little things” is a struggle.

What simple joy can you look for today? Try to see the world through the eyes of a child as you go about your day. You will find yourself feeling much more content when you rest your head on your pillow tonight!
