These classes focus on developing reading skills through a multi-faceted approach as well as encouraging a more functional understanding of phonics to give children a head start with reading. This class is ideal for children in K1 and K2. During the programme, the children learn to read and understand sentences, recognise high frequency words, predict words from the context, use knowledge of phonics to decode new words, and develop an enjoyment of books and reading.
The emphasis is more on phonics and reading and less on writing skills. Phonics will be taught in a multi-sensory way, through many different games and activities. Some writing will be included but this will be linked to reading materials and will be used as another reading tool for each child. These classes have limited seating.
